Our Opportunity Quilts
Each year the guild collaborates on creating and selling chances to win an opportunity quilt. The guild has used Opportunity Quilts as fundraisers in the past. However, when Covid shut down our ability to stage a quilt show, we lost a primary income source. Opportunity quilts became an important source of revenue as well as a way for members to collaborate on creating the quilt.
Opportunity Quilts help connect our guild to the communities of Green Valley and the larger area south of Tucson, like Vail, Tubac, Rio Rico, etc. Bringing the quilt to local venues raises awareness of quilting in our area.
Chances to win the current opportunity quilt are sold on our website, at the Green Valley Farmer’s market on Wednesdays.
Creating each quilt requires dozens of hours of effort, and an investment in fabrics donated by guild members. Each week, our "Quilt Mom", Joan Fahning and her trusty group of ticket seller volunteers transport the quilt to craft fairs and farmers' markets and spend the mornings chatting with shoppers. New guild members often say that they weren't aware of our vibrant, active guild until they saw us at an event like this.
